Jemez Springs, Ho! - May 20, 2010

Another gorgeous day in New Mexico! And what better way to spend it than checking out the sights to our north with our visitors from the north. On the agenda for the day, Jemez Springs, Soda Dam, Battleship Rock, and Jemez Falls. Lots to see so we'd better get cracking!

Aunt Alicia is ready to go!

Our first stop was at the Jemez Springs Plaza, which sported a Bath House, jungle gym, public restrooms (important to me!) and a bright green skate park. The boys immediately gravitated to the alien environment.

After our brief rest break, we pressed on – to Soda Dam! I have very... specific memories of Soda Dam as a child involving a cattle guard. I really don't want to talk about it.

But other than some wounded pride (and an ankle), Soda Dam is still a very fun place to visit. Climbing the rock wall was immediately in order. Asher, Jonethan, and I got in touch with our inner mountain goats and scaled up the rocks to view the water fall from above.

Our daring shenanigans were cause for some concern for Aunt Alicia and Grandma Carolyn. I blame our adventuresome spirit on the crisp mountain air.

Nonetheless, the view from the top is really quite spectacular.

A view of Dad, Grandpa Kent, and Dex below.

Still lots to see so we must press on...
