The Big Screen - November 13, 2010

I actually remember the first movie I ever saw in a theater. I was about five years old and my mother took me to see The Last Unicorn while my dad took my brothers to see Star Wars. My parents thought I would be too scared with Star Wars, though later my mother confessed to me that The Last Unicorn was a poor choice because it had some pretty scary elements in it too. All I honestly remember is that the heroine had really long hair.

Asher is about 4 and a half now and we figured it was time for him to experience the magic of the big screen. It's taken a little while for us to find a suitable movie because Asher tends to let himself get drawn in so much that scary or stressful elements overwhelm him. But after a pre-screening, we determined that Despicable Me would a good first.

Asher was in agreement.

A brief overview of the movie: A criminal mastermind needs the help of three orphan girls to pull off the greatest heist of the century. So he adopts them and hijinks in ensue.

Perfect fluff! Nothing too intense.

Unfortunately, all they had available was the 3D showing. Thus far I have been unimpressed with the 3D aspect of children's movies, but you takes what you can gets. Asher, on the other hand, rather liked wearing the clunky glasses.

Funny, mindless, cute. That's all we ask out of our entertainment.
