A Long Awaited Reopening! - August 17, 2010
I don't know if I will ever be able to move away from this house. It's a nice size with a lovely, open living room and a huge kitchen with (surprise!) sufficient counter and cabinet space. And I won't even get started on the pantry. I could write an ode to our pantry. But more than all of this, we are within walking distance from the library.
Just a quick hop, skip, and jump and we are at the library, surrounded by the glory of thousands and thousands of books. Books we don't have to find a space for in our house. Books that are arranged alphabetically and shelved every night. Books that have an online database to search and reserve them. Books galore! Just for us!
But tragedy struck us. Back in February they closed our library for remodeling. They said it wouldn't reopen until May. May! We had to drive to get to a library for three whole months? Oh the humanity!
Well, it turned out to be even worse than that. It wasn't ready to reopen in May. June passed without the doors even creaking open a little. July slogged on and still no library. At last, August arrives and the date is set. And we are so there! And we aren't the only ones.
Asher beckons for us to hurry up the stairs. There's a library waiting!
Dex's excitement is contagious. We just can't wait to have our library back. We hear the books calling to us from inside. "Read us! Read us!" they shout.
Our very own mayor shows up for the ceremony. Speeches are made. People are thanked. Blah blah blah - let us in! The books are calling to us. After all the speeches, the mayor calls all the kids up to help him open the library. Note Asher standing right in front.
The mayor actually asked Asher if he wanted to cut the ribbon, but the wretched little girl behind him shot her hand up in the air, shouting, "Me! Me! Me!" So, Asher - being a gentleman - let the little brat do it.
At last, books!
Now we can get to heart of the matter. Let's read!
