A Walk in the Bosque - May 25, 2010
Aaahhh, the halcyon days of summer are almost upon us. Which of course means we will be delegated to indoor activities for a good portion of the day because it's so hot! But for now, we're going to take advantage of the lovely weather and enjoy the great outdoors - specifically the Rio Grande Nature Center!
After stiffing the city its $3 parking fee because they "don't make change" we head to the nature center itself. We want to check out all the educational stuff before hitting the trails.
Dex makes a dash through the tunnel that leads to the entrance.
First call to order is to make animal foot prints in the sand box.
(You'll note the presence of Jonethan - he's been popping up a lot in the Dixon Bros. adventures because he's being homeschooled this year and spends Tuesdays and Thursdays with us. - Ed.)
We only fooled around in the Nature Center for just a little bit. After all, why read about nature when you can experience nature! Just outside the nature center is a "viewing wall" where you can look through the windows at the pond. See Asher on the right?
After ogling the turtles in the pond for a bit. We set out to reach the river.
The walk wasn't very long or strenuous and it was truly a beautiful spring day to be out and about. Dex blazed the trail like nobody's business!
At last we make it to the mighty Rio Grande! The river water was very high so we could walk right up to it from the bank. This pleased all boys no end. Mud castles were made, moats were constructed, water was splashed in... a good - if somewhat messy time - was had by all.
Little boys and mud and water. 'Nuff said.
