Having Your Cake... - March 21, 2009
An important date is fast approaching for the Brothers Dixon. A birthday in fact. And, as Asher will no doubt attest, it is very important to have cake to celebrate important dates. Very important.
Asher was more than happy to help make the cake.
We decided that this occassion called for no ordinary cake. We needed something special. Something unique. Something really, really bright. In other words, we needed a rainbow cake! First we start with a plain ol' white cake. Then we divide the batter into six separate bowls. Then comes the fun part - "brightening" the cake! We used coloring gel instead of just food coloring to really make the colors stand out.
We mixed and tested and judged and finally we figured we got the colors just right!
Then we poured the batter into the pans. But no mixing them up! That would ruin the effect.
Just the thought of eating this cake makes Asher grin.
Now I'd love to claim my own creative genius as the force behind this cake, but that would be a big fat lie. I got the idea from here, though I prepared the cake using the instructions on the box and used regular whipped cream as the frosting. I don't think birthday cake is the proper place to try to cut calories!
