Which Way to Wichita - OK City Memorial
Hey A-Man,
Since Granpa Kent and Gradman Carolyn weren't going to be able to make it to Wichita until very late tonight, we decided to spend the day in Oklahoma City touristing around. Our first stop was the Oklahoma City National Memorial - site of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
There is a chain link fence that was put up while the memorial was being built. They decided to keep it up because people had put up little shrines to lost loved ones and others had written notes of sorrow and support. New stuff is added to it all the time. |
|
The first wall, which is the entrance to the memorial, had 9:01 engraved on it, while the opposite wall had 9:03. The reflecting pool represented 9:02 - the time the bomb went off. |

|
Each chair represents a person who was killed in the bombing. There are nine rows of chairs, which each row having the number of people killed on each of the nine floors of the building. Children are represented by smaller chairs. These chairs are where the actual Federal Building sat. |
|
I think it is important for you to know that great evil exists in this world, as was demonstrated by the man who did this horrendous thing. But, our God is greater, and by His grace, we shall overcome the world! |
There's still more to see in Oklahoma City... |
Love You,
Mom |
