NM State Fair 2006

Asher-Cutie,

There are few things in New Mexico that really let you know that summer is over and fall is here. Among them - the smell of green chile roasting, crisper mornings and cooler evenings, horrid political campaign commercial (this year), and the New Mexico State Fair.

We, of course, had to go.  So on a Wednesday afternoon, me, you, Papa Bruce, and Shima all went to the state fair.

One of our stops was the Red Barn - a staple of the State Fair.  In it are all sorts of farm animals.

You got to see a burro...

And piggies (don't get any ideas here!)...

After the Big Red Barn we went to the Creative Arts building.  In this building is the sweat and tears of many New Mexicans as they attempt to express themselves through art and collectibles.  Hours of painstaking dedication went into some of the works presented in this exhibit.  But you were more interested in...

... yanking on Papa Bruce's beard. We took time out of your busy beard yanking schedule to wander over to the calligraphy exhibit.  There was a very kind woman there doing samples for anyone patient enough to wait line.  I got this one for you.  It's on the fridge right now:

Until next year!  Viva New Mexico State Fair!

Love,
Mom
