A Wedding and a Birthday

My Cutie-kins,

It's been another eventful weekend!  You actually made it to both a wedding and reception on Friday the 2nd, and you celebrated Cousin Ryan's second birthday with him in a park on Saturday the 3rd.

The wedding was very nice.  It was outdoors and even though it was a tad warm at the beginning, you weren't fussy at all.  In fact, I think you were more patient than I while waiting for the ceremony to start.

You got to meet some very old friends of the family at this wedding.  Granny Gretchen has known me since I was probably your size.  And Nikki and I have been friends for over 25 years!  She promised to baby-sit you if Dad and I ever want to go out.  I think you'll get along fabulously with her and become fast friends.  You sure had a good time with her at the reception.

You also got to see Mrs. Allen again.  We were good friends with her son, David, and she is an awesome resource for me.  I know this may come as a shock to you, but I'm still trying to figure out this whole parenting thing and I often need advice.  You didn't come with a instruction manual!

We didn't stay out too late at the reception because we had a birthday party to attend in the morning.  Your cousin Ryan turned two years old on May 31st.  It's hard for me to believe he's already two.  It seems like just a few weeks ago he was your age. Grandpa Bruce tells me the same thing will happen with you.  I'll blink my eyes and you'll already be one.  I'll turn around and your second birthday will be up on me.  So I'm just really enjoying this time with little ol' you.

As I often tell you, your only job right now is to be little.  I love your little toes and fingers.  I love your little nose.  I love your cute little smiles and cooing noises. I'm trying to savor every moment because I know it goes so quickly.  Soon cooing noises will turn into words, and little fingers and toes will be getting into all sorts of mischief.  As countless mothers who have gone before me know, this only last for a season.  And such a short season!

Anyway, you had a good time at the party.  It was in a park and you really enjoyed looking at how the wind made the leaves in the trees dance.  Upward, I have come to discover, is your favorite view.  And just being outside is something that you always enjoy.  Someday I will write you a letter of things you enjoy, but right now I must bring this one to a close.

Love Much,
Mom
