A Bunch of "Firsts"My dearest Little One, Well, this has certainly been one eventful holiday weekend. This Memorial Day weekend we packed up the car with all the baby gear that would fit and off we went to Blair, Nebraska for David Freeman and Stephani Kidjo's wedding. On the way we stopped in Colorado Springs, CO to see some Aunt Janes. On the way up, it was Dad's Aunt Jane and her husband, daughter, and kids. I must say that they all really liked you (and who couldn't?). On the way down it was my Aunt Janey (who also thought you were quite something). Driving up to Colorado Springs wasn't so bad. I must say that I am very, very proud of you. You dealt with being the car for about nine hours with great aplomb. Only getting upset if you were either hungry, wet, or bored. I, too, get upset when those things happen to me, so I can hardly blame you. Unfortunately, day two wasn't so great. We ended up in the car for 14 hours or so traversing the rest of Colorado and the ENTIRE state of Nebraska. We were all tired and cranky by the end of that. We didn't get to our hotel until about 10:30 at night. But, once again, you proved to be a real trooper through the whole thing. And you were an absolute hit at the reception. Everyone just thought you were the cutest thing. I'm sorry, but you and I ended up missing the actual wedding because I was suffering from a bout of "bad fish" I had eaten the day before. You took out missing out on the ceremony much better than me. I was so disappointed. Lesson to all: avoid the fish in the Nebraska! Anyway, this little letter is about some firsts that you had.
Luckily, Dad and I tend to learn from our mistakes, so on the way back, we split Nebraska up into two days. We left the reception a little early and just struck out across the plain. We made it all the way to North Platte. This way we halved the time we had to spend in the car the next day! And now we're home! You are a very nice travel companion. Sweet, cute, mostly quiet. Your needs on the road are simple and easily attainable. But even so, Dad and I have decided not to take an extended road trip with you again for a very, very long time. With Much Love,
